“Requiescat: Mozart’s Requiem and other music to lower grief and loss” event details

“In addition to Mozart’s Requiem—the centerpiece of our program—we’re looking forward to sharing a sneak-peek performance of “Watermelon,” written by KMFA’s Composer in Residence Sophie Mathieu for our performance at Here Be Monsters on May 25/26. Sophie’s piece is inspired by the grief we experience as our environment changes around us, and as more and more elements of our natural world are lost due to human activity. The poetry was written by our friend Zach Matteson of Invoke, who you might recognize from our fall Folk Yeah! concerts. We’re excited to present this composition, which marries the incredible artistry of some of our community’s best creatives.

We are also looking forward to partnering with Community Arts Therapy, who has invited us to participate in a special project: They will be onsite at our program offering an opportunity to contribute to a memorial mural, which will eventually be installed on South Lamar. Memorialize someone you’ve lost and know that their name will be part of public art in Austin, TX.

We’ll be sharing more about our upcoming concert in the coming weeks, but we can say this much for sure… we are presenting only one performance of this repertoire, and it is likely to sell out fast. Avoid the grief and loss of missing your chance to buy tickets—get yours today!”
